Colorado Fuel Update
Effective July 1, 2022 Road Usage Fee (RUF) and Bridge and Tunnel Impact Fee (BTI)
Due to the passage of Senate Bill 21-260, effective July 1, 2022, in addition to the fuel tax, the price of clear diesel and clear biodiesel fuel will include the $0.02 per gallon Bridge and Tunnel Impact fee (BTI). The BTI fee is charged on special fuel only. Dyed special fuels are excluded.
Effective April 1, 2023, the price of gasoline and clear special fuel will include the Road Usage Fee of $0.02 per gallon. This is in addition to the BTI fee being charged for clear special fuel. This fee applies to clear diesel, gasoline, gasohol (E-10, E-85), ethanol, methanol, M-85, A55, and biodiesel.
Both fees will increase on July 1 annually. Starting with the period ending 09/30/2022, these fees will be included in the tax rates on your IFTA tax return (DR 0122) filed through Revenue Online. After June 2032 the bridge and tunnel impact fee and the road usage fee rates will be adjusted annually based on inflation. The Department will update its website each year by April 15th with the new rate.
