3Q24 IFTA Newsletter

2025 IFTA Renewal Information (3Q24 Newsletter)

2025 Renewal Process:

  • IFTA credentials are for a calendar year, unlike IRP, which can expire at different times. The IFTA renewal season begins December 1st. Accounts are reviewed in no particular order, and licenses and decals are mailed weekly via USPS to accounts in good standing.
  • IRP registered vehicles are issued one set of decals each. If you need another set of decals, you may request them when registering a new vehicle for IRP, or by web message through Revenue Online. IFTA accounts will receive an “Action Required for IFTA Renewal” letter if additional information is required for their renewal.

Renewal Requirements:

  • Carriers must meet Colorado Base Jurisdiction requirements to be renewed. See tax.colorado.gov/IFTA-Colorado-Qualifications for more information.
  • Accounts must have a Colorado mailing address and be in good standing (i.e. no missing returns, outstanding balances, etc. through 3Q24).
  • Accounts with three-quarters of Colorado-only activity will not be renewed.

Submitting Additional Information:

If more documents are required (e.g., DR7511, IFTA Lease Agreement Certificate with current registrations, county registrations, etc.), to prevent delays, submit these documents by November 15th in Revenue Online and indicate that they are for the 2025 license.

Verify Your Mailing Address: Your mailing address must be current to receive information; this includes your license and decals.

Important Dates & Timeline:

  • October 2024: Sent in early October, the IFTA Renewal Letter allows you to opt out of the 2025 IFTA license renewal. Sign and return it by October 31st or send a message via Revenue Online to close your IFTA account effective December 31, 2024.
  • November & December 2024: If you receive an "Action Required for IFTA Renewal" letter, you must resolve the issue before the Department can issue your 2025 credentials.
  • December 2024:
    • Allow two weeks for the Department to process paper returns and payments.
    • Electronic payments and returns take up to one week to process.
    • Accounts In Good Standing By December 20th: No further action is required by you.
    • Accounts In Good Standing After December 20th: You must send a web message confirming you want to receive the 2025 license.
  • January 2025: If you have not received your IFTA credentials or a letter by January 15, 2025, and you intend to operate as an IFTA carrier in 2025, review your account online to check if a letter was issued and that your account is in good standing, including valid mailing address. Contact the Fuel Tax Unit for questions.
February 28, 2025: Deadline to obtain and display the 2025 decals on your vehicle(s).

To avoid disruption in your operations, stay informed and meet all deadlines.
