Starting in November of each year, the Fuel Tax Unit conducts a review of all IFTA licensees for the auto-renewal process. Issuance of IFTA renewal licenses begins in December for the upcoming year.
Licensees will be notified by the end of December if their account is not in compliance or if additional information is required for renewal. Licensees should review all letters to ensure timely renewal of their IFTA license. IFTA accounts not in compliance by December 31 will be automatically closed and notified by letter.
A Lease Agreement Certificate (DR 7511) for each Lessor must be provided to the Fuel Tax Unit on a yearly basis for renewal and issuance of decals, if applicable.
License Closure: A letter allowing licensees to opt out of renewal will be sent at the end of September of each year. Complete this form ONLY if you do not wish to renew your IFTA license for the upcoming year.
Renewing Carriers: Most Colorado IFTA licensees are automatically renewed if the IFTA account is in good standing and all vehicle registrations are valid for the upcoming renewal year. IFTA accounts are in good standing if all IFTA tax returns are filed, all taxes, penalties and interest have been paid, and the carrier is in compliance with Colorado base jurisdiction laws.
