Please remember that you must claim the state sales tax refund (TABOR refund) when filing your state income tax return. If you claimed a 2023 refund, the TABOR refund will be combined and issued out with your refund. Unlike the 2022 Colorado cashback, no separate check will be issued.

Compressed & Liquefied Gases

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)

CNG fuel is taxed at the gallon equivalent rate, defined by the Internal Revenue Service as 126.67 cubic feet of natural gas.

The Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Natural Gas Inspection fee is $10 per tank truckload and includes fuel sales of natural gas as well as LPG sales. A tank truckload is defined as 8,000 gallons of LPG or LNG and 8,000 gallon equivalents of CNG. Tax and fee rates are located on the Fuel Tax Forms and Instructions page.

A LPG retailer that does not sell LPG for use in motor vehicles is not required to obtain a fuel distributor license if they:

1. Submit an affidavit, form DR1501.

2. Conspicuously post at the distribution point a sign indicating the LPG is not for sale for use in motor vehicles.
