LAKEWOOD, August 9, 2021 — The Colorado Department of Revenue announced today that the Geographic Information System (GIS), built as part of the Sales and Use Tax System, is now available on the myColorado™ mobile app, the State of Colorado’s official mobile app™. The mobile GIS allows you to use your smartphone’s GPS location to help determine the sales tax rate at your location.

Until now,  businesses and individuals could only look up the specific sales tax rate for an individual address or map location using a desktop or laptop.

The GIS not only shows state sales tax information, but it also includes sales tax information for counties, municipalities, and special taxation districts. This system allows for a complete tax rate to be determined so the correct tax is collected from customers in real-time.

“This will allow retailers to determine the sales tax rate on the go, which will help mobile food vendors, special event vendors, and traveling salespeople,” said Brendon Reese, Senior Director of the Taxation Division.

Retailers with questions can call the Sales and Use Tax System (SUTS) Support Line at (720) 795-7759 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please visit Tax.Colorado.gov/GIS-Info for more information.
