However, if you are a first-time Colorado income tax filer, you must file a paper return or through an accepted tax software(opens in new window) program. After your first tax return is processed, you may create your own User ID and Password to use in Revenue Online.

Step by Step Instructions
Username Recovery Instructions
Go to Revenue Online: Colorado.gov/RevenueOnline
- If you forgot your username, select the “Forgot Username or Password?” link.
- Enter your email address to have the username associated with your Revenue
Online account emailed to you. Once you enter your email address, select
“Submit”.
- If you have a Revenue Online account, your username will be emailed.
- If you didn’t receive the recovery email, please check your spam folder.
- If you do not receive an email, there are no Revenue Online usernames associated with the email address that was entered.
- Once you receive your email confirmation, select “Return to Login” to return to the Homepage to enter your username.
Password Reset Instructions
- If you forgot your password, instead of selecting “Forgot your username?” you will want to enter your username and email address under the “Reset Your Password” section and then select “Submit.”
- You will receive a reference number that should be used when contacting the
Department of Revenue for password recovery assistance. You can print the
confirmation number by selecting the “Print Confirmation” button or return to the Login Page by selecting “Return to Login Page.” - If the username and email address entered are associated with an active
Revenue Online logon, a password reset link will be sent to the email address
entered. This link can only be used once and is set to expire five minutes after it is sent. If you didn't receive the recovery email:- Check your Spam folder
- Verify the username and email address are correct by going through the username recovery process.
- Select the “click here” link to reset your password.
- You will be asked a series of questions to verify your identity. Once you answer these questions, select “Next.” If you don’t know the answer to your recovery question, call the Taxpayer Helpline at (303) 238-7378.
- You will be asked to reset your password. To protect your account, make sure
your password:- Is eight characters or more
- Uses both numbers and letters
- Uses uppercase and lowercase letters
- Does not match or contain your username
- Then select “Submit”.
- You should receive a confirmation screen stating, “Your password has been updated. Please use this new password when you log in next”.
