Please remember that you must claim the state sales tax refund (TABOR refund) when filing your state income tax return. If you claimed a 2023 refund, the TABOR refund will be combined and issued out with your refund. Unlike the 2022 Colorado cashback, no separate check will be issued.

Tax Exemption Application

Certificate of Exemption

If the Colorado Department of Revenue determines that an organization qualifies, the organization will receive a "Certificate of Exemption" that authorizes it to purchase items and services without paying state sales tax and state-administered local sales taxes when these items and services are used to conduct the organization's regular charitable function.

  • Attach a copy of your Federal Determination Letter from the IRS showing under which classification code you are exempt. Only organizations exempt under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code will be considered for exemption.
  • Attach a copy of your latest financial statement to reflect sources of Colorado income and expenditures. New organizations submit a projected statement.
  • Attach a copy of Colorado Articles of Incorporation or of Organization. State a specific purpose and function.
  • Attach a copy of the most current Colorado Secretary of State Certificate known as "Certificate of Good Standing."
