Filing and Payment Oil and Gas Production

Producers are required to file the Oil & Gas Production Fee Return and pay the fee owed electronically through Revenue Online. The producer reports the quantity of oil and gas produced each period for all of their wells within Colorado.

Returns must be filed quarterly between one month and ten days after each period ends and no later than the end of the second month after each period ends. A return must be filed even if no fee is due. If the due date falls on a state holiday or weekend, the return and payment are due on the next business day.

Payments must be submitted electronically to a specific period and the Oil & Gas Production Fee account. The Department does not automatically reapply payments to periods or accounts. To redirect a payment or credit to another period or account, submit a written request through Revenue Online by selecting More…, then clicking Send a Message in the Correspondence box.

ACH Credit payments may be paid by using your Colorado Account Number (CAN), FEIN, SSN, or TIN. Current users with an EFT number may use the EFT number when making payments. For Oil & Gas Production Fee accounts, use “087” for the “Tax Code” portion of the addenda.

For additional information on payment options, see the Payment Information page.
