Colorado Tax Rate Change

The fuel price in Colorado includes two fees in addition to the fuel tax. For rate information, go to Tax.Colorado.gov/IFTA-forms. The Road Usage fee will increase to $0.06 per gallon on July 1. This fee is automatically included in the tax rate and is programmed into your Revenue Online return.

Kentucky Fuel Tax Rate Reduction

Kentucky reduced its fuel tax rate by $0.10 for 30 days, from May 11th to June 9th.
How to File: You must split your Kentucky fuel purchases and miles into two separate rows on your IFTA return:

  • KY Base Rate: Report miles driven and tax-paid volume (gallons) bought from April 1 through May 10, and from June 10 through June 30.
  • KY Base Rate 2: Report miles driven and tax-paid volume (gallons) bought during the reduction dates: May 11 through June 9.

Fuel Surcharge: Kentucky charges a separate fuel surcharge. Report your Kentucky miles and fuel on the Surcharge Rate line for the entire period: April 1 through June 30.

General Filing Reminders

  • To maintain your IFTA license, you must file a quarterly IFTA Tax Return even if your vehicles were not driven or you did not purchase any fuel during the quarter.
  • Maintain all operational records and fuel receipts used to support your reported miles and fuel. All IFTA records must be retained for a period of four years from the due date of the return or the date it was filed, whichever is later.

Decal Requests

  • The IFTA Decal Replacement Request, form DR 7053, is required to request replacement decals.
  • The IFTA Temporary Decal may be carried for up to 30 days in lieu of displaying the annual decals. The temporary decal is vehicle-specific, and it must be carried with a copy of your license to be valid in all member jurisdictions. IFTA Articles of Agreement, effective 1/1/2026, *R650.
