Extended Deadlines and Relief Options
The Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) is offering tax relief to residents and businesses affected by recent Colorado wildfires. To alleviate financial pressure during recovery, the Taxation Division is waiving late filing penalties and extending certain state tax deadlines.
The Department of Revenue has extended deadlines or provided waiver options for specific state tax filings.
State Tax Extensions (Extended to December 31, 2026)
The deadline has been extended to December 31, 2026 for the following state taxes:
- Income Tax Extensions: Applies to income tax extensions originally due on October 15.
- Sales Taxes: Applies to sales taxes due between July 20 and October 20.
Other Taxes and Fees (Due by November 6, 2026)
Taxpayers can contact the DOR to request penalty waivers for other taxes and fees due in October. Affected taxpayers have until November 6, 2026, to file these taxes. This applies, but is not limited, to:
- Marijuana taxes
- Fuel taxes
- Retailer delivery fees
Important Exclusion: This relief applies only to state taxes. It does not apply to municipal taxes collected by home-rule cities, such as Pueblo, Cortez, Durango, and others.
